The leading national body committed to elevating headache care, education, and research across India.
Our Vision and Mission
India bears a staggering burden of primary and secondary headache disorders. Migraine alone significantly impacts our young, productive population. HSI was founded to systematically improve the landscape of headache care through five vital pillars:
- Advancing Education and Training: We are committed to elevating the standard of headache education at every tier of healthcare by developing formal training modules for postgraduate neurology residents and structured CME programs for primary care physicians.
- Standardizing Clinical Care: HSI will work to standardize clinical protocols, publish India-specific treatment guidelines, and support the integration of advanced therapeutics into everyday clinical practice.
- Fostering Impactful Research: We aim to catalyze collaborative research registries and clinical trials that address the unique genetic, cultural, and epidemiological profiles of Indian patients.
- Knowledge Sharing: HSI will serve as a hub for intellectual exchange through national and international conferences, workshops, and webinars connecting domestic experts with global faculty.
- Global Advocacy and Liaison: We are committed to strengthening collaboration with the International Headache Society (IHS) and other international organizations, ensuring India has a strong voice in the global headache medicine community.
Governance and Transparancy of HSI
The Headache Society of India (HSI) operates under a well-defined governance structure, as detailed in its Memorandum of Association and Rules and Regulations.
- The Governing Body consists of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Joint Secretary, Treasurer, and Executive Members, all elected by the General Body after the initial five years where the existing members continue with their respective positions. Thereafter elections will be held as per the constitution
- All members— are entitled to participate in meetings, cultural and educational functions, and inspect society records with prior approval, promoting openness and inclusivity.
- The General Body, comprising all members, meets annually to review activities, and make key decisions. Notices for meetings are issued at least 45 days in advance, and decisions are made democratically through voting.
- Financial transparency is maintained through annual audits by an independent Chartered Accountant, with all funds managed jointly by designated office bearers. The society’s income is strictly used for its aims and objectives, with no profits distributed to members, and all activities are conducted on a non-profit, no-loss basis.
- Regular filing of the Governing Body’s details with the Registrar of Societies and adherence to the Societies Registration Act, 1860, reinforce HSI’s commitment to legal compliance and public accountability.
